We’ve been on both sides of the great New Baby Gift Dilemma.
We’ve stood in shops (and hovered over endless online tabs), trying to find the perfect gift for siblings, friends, and family with absolutely no clue what new parents actually need… or what will stay untouched in its packaging until it’s politely re-gifted two years later. (We actually once received our gift back to us by a friend who will remain nameless!)
And we’ve also been on the receiving end. As new parents, we’ve unwrapped some truly perfect gifts, the kind that make you feel seen and, well… some not-so-perfect ones that quietly migrated to the back of a cupboard.

Tip 1
Less Is More (Really.)
You don’t always need to show up with the biggest, fanciest, most ribbon-covered gift.
Sometimes the most meaningful present is you.
One of our favourite gifts ever?
A friend made us a little booklet of vouchers for things like:
- A home-cooked meal
- Two hours of babysitting
- “I’ll hold the baby while you shower” (pure gold)
Thoughtfulness goes a very long way when new parents are just trying to make it through the day in one piece.
Tip 2
Think Beyond the First Few Weeks
New parents often get an avalanche of teeny-tiny newborn items…
…which their baby grows out of in what feels like 11 seconds.
So if you really want to be helpful, shop a range of sizes.
Future you (and future them) will thank you when they open a drawer a few months later and find something that actually fits.

Choose Quality Over Quantity
